Construction is my passion

My name is Matteo Mignola and I live in Brione Verzasca. I’m a graduated mason and I have a great passion for constructions in general. I’m very interested in any construction, especially in those of the past. I love working with stones and rocks, creating stone walls and stone tile roofs.

For several years, I have been fascinated by log homes. So, in February 2015 I went to New Zealand and followed a course on how to build log homes. The course lasted one month and it was a fantastic experience.

During the course we built the frame of a log house, which measured 11m x 11m with a patio of 45 degrees. The result of the construction was nearly perfect, considering that there were some students not used to dealing with a chainsaw.

Before attending this course, I had already read several books and guides about the construction of log homes. Thereafter I begun building a small log cabin on a mount in order to practice what I had read. Attending the course allowed me to improve my skills and to become familiar with the construction techniques: how to cut with a chainsaw and how to choose the right log to use.
